Where to buy coffee beans in San Luis Obispo
Scout coffee is roasted by HoneyCo, our own roastery in Morro Bay. Buy bags at any Scout cafe, online for pickup, or shipped 1 to 2 days after roasting.
The coffee served at Scout is roasted by HoneyCo Coffee Roasters, and HoneyCo is Scout's own roastery. It has roasted every coffee Scout serves since 2015, and since 2024 it has done that behind glass at the Scout cafe in Morro Bay. The bag you take home is the same coffee that goes into the drinks at the bar.
Here are the 4 ways to get it.
1. Pick up a bag at any Scout cafe
All 3 Scout cafes carry whole bean coffee on the retail shelf, open 6:30am to 6:30pm every day. Fresh coffee comes over from the roastery every Tuesday and Friday. Buy it whole bean, or ask and we will grind it for you at the counter.
- Garden Street: 1130 Garden Street, downtown San Luis Obispo
- Foothill: 880 Foothill Blvd, University Square, next to Cal Poly
- Morro Bay: 390 Morro Bay Blvd, a few blocks up from the Embarcadero, with the roastery in view
2. Order online and pick up at a Scout shop

3. Have it shipped
Online orders are roasted in Morro Bay and ship within 1 to 2 days of roasting. Coffee ships Monday to Friday by USPS Priority, typically 2 to 4 days in transit anywhere in the US and 1 to 2 days inside California. Details are on the shipping page.
4. Subscribe
A subscription through honeycocoffee.com saves 10 percent on every delivery. Pick a coffee, a grind and a bag size, then choose how often it arrives, from weekly to every 6 weeks. You can swap, skip or pause from your account.

Which coffee to buy
The labels on Scout bags stay familiar while the coffees underneath rotate with each fresh crop. Each new lot is roasted to match the profile of the one before it, so a bag of Classic Espresso tastes like Classic Espresso whenever you order it.
- Classic Espresso is the coffee in every espresso drink at Scout. Buy it if you want the latte from the cafe at home.
- Scout House Blend is the coffee on drip at every Scout location. Buy it for a drip machine or a pour-over.
- Single origins rotate seasonally.
- Cuesta Decaf is the decaf.
Every coffee comes whole bean or ground for espresso, drip or French press. If you are not sure, the coffee quiz matches you to a coffee, a grind and a bag size in a few questions.
How the coffee is bought and roasted
HoneyCo buys from the top 1 percent of fresh crop, through direct relationships with producers wherever possible, and pays well above Fair Trade prices. Every bag is roasted on a Loring Kestrel 35 in downtown Morro Bay. Every batch is logged as it runs, with temperature readings every 4 seconds from several probes, and there are tens of thousands of saved batches to roast against. That record is how a lot roasted in September matches the one roasted in February. In 2025, HoneyCo was voted Best Coffee Roaster in SLO County.
If you want to see it, order a coffee at the Morro Bay cafe and sit where you can see the roaster. The roastery page has the full story.
Brewing it at home
Once the bag is home, the biggest lever is extraction. If the coffee tastes sour or thin, grind finer or use a little more coffee. If it tastes bitter or harsh, grind coarser or use a little less. Change one thing at a time. Our guide to extraction walks through it, and the baristas at any cafe are glad to help you dial in.
Coffee for a business
HoneyCo runs a wholesale program for restaurants, hotels and offices, with orders starting at 25 lbs. Samples and current pricing are on the HoneyCo wholesale page.
