Coffee in downtown San Luis Obispo: Scout Garden Street
Scout Garden Street at 1130 Garden Street is the original Scout cafe, open since 2014, 6:30am to 6:30pm every day, with pastries from our own bakery.
Scout Coffee opened at 1130 Garden Street in January 2014, in a brick building in the heart of downtown San Luis Obispo. It is still the original Scout, open 6:30am to 6:30pm every day, and the easiest place in town to try the coffee and the pastries voted Best Coffee Shop in SLO County 11 years in a row, most recently in 2026.

The coffee is ours, start to finish
Every coffee at Scout is roasted by HoneyCo Coffee Roasters, Scout's own roastery, in Morro Bay. HoneyCo buys from the top 1 percent of fresh crop, pays well above Fair Trade prices, and roasts every batch against a record of tens of thousands of earlier batches so the coffee tastes the same from one season to the next. The retail shelf at Garden Street carries the same coffee served at the bar, whole bean or ground. Shop the coffee.
The shop
Garden Street carries the Scout goods too: mugs, tumblers and hats printed with Scout designs, along with the coffee.. Most of it is also online at scoutcoffeeco.com, with pickup at any Scout shop.

A morning downtown
Scout opens at 6:30am, well ahead of most of downtown. Start with a coffee and a croissant on Garden Street, then walk.
Local videographer Matt Yoon included Scout in his 24 Hours in SLO video, which is a good 1 day plan for the town.
What others have written

Scout Foothill is at 880 Foothill Blvd in University Square next to Cal Poly, with a lot and a patio.
