Parking Lot Renovation nears completion at Scout Morro Bay
Tesla Charging, Solar, and Site Improvements
If you’ve been to Scout Morro Bay lately, you’ve noticed that we’ve had a long running construction project in our parking lot. We’re happy to announce that everything is almost complete!
The Biggest Customer facing update: Tesla Charging in Morro Bay Is Here
Scout Morro Bay will now be home to an 8 stall Tesla super-charging station, with Tesla’s latest technology across the site.
Morro Bay ranked in the top four most requested cities in the country in Tesla’s internal surveys for new charging locations, so it’s safe to say lots of people will be happy this is complete. The main reason is pretty straightforward: Big Sur is just up the road and until now there were no nearby Superchargers along this stretch of Highway 1.
That created a real gap for EV drivers on the Central Coast.
Now, for those driving highway 1, going between SF & LA, taking a weekend Big Sur trip, or just spending some time in Morro Bay, you now have a great spot to charge.
Plug in. Come inside. Grab coffee and house made baked goods, and maybe a bag of whole bean for the trip. Relax a bit and enjoy your adventure. We’re excited to have you join us.
Solar Canopy and 250+ Panels On Site
The charging stalls include Tesla’s solar canopy structure, generating renewable energy above the cars.
Our building already operates with rooftop solar. With the canopy included, the site now has more than 250 high efficiency solar panels helping offset energy use on the property.
For travelers, it means charging in a location designed to be more energy efficient. For us, it gives a long term energy cost hedge and allows us to run the business a bit more responsibly for the long term.
Site Improvements That Make It Work Better
The project also included broader upgrades to the property:
Updated electrical infrastructure
Improved traffic flow
New fencing
Completely new asphalt, striping, and signage.
A Better Stop Along Highway 1
Morro Bay has always been a great stop along Highway 1, but now it is a practical one for EV drivers too.
If you are passing through, we hope this makes your trip smoother.
If you are local, thank you for your patience while we wrapped it up.
The lot is open.
The chargers will be live by next week.
We’ll be ready for you. See you soon in Morro Bay!
